Care guide

Looking after your kit helps it last longer and perform better. Most issues come from over-washing or washing things the wrong way, so keeping it simple goes a long way.

General tips (for everything)

  • Always check the care label first.
  • Wash less often if you can.
  • Close zips, fasten straps, and turn items inside out.
  • Use a gentle detergent. Avoid fabric softener.
  • Air drying is usually best.

Waterproof jackets & trousers

Waterproofs don’t need frequent washing, but dirt and oils reduce performance over time.

  • Wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle.
  • Use a technical or mild detergent.
  • Do not use fabric softener or bleach.
  • Close all zips and fastenings before washing.
  • Air dry where possible.

If water stops beading on the surface, a re-proofing wash or spray can help restore performance.

Down jackets

  • Wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle.
  • Use a down-specific detergent.
  • Do not bleach or dry clean.
  • Dry flat and reshape while damp.
  • Make sure it is fully dry before storing.
  • Never store down while damp or compressed.

Merino layers & baselayers

Merino is naturally odour-resistant, so it doesn’t need washing after every wear.

  • Wash cold or at 30°C.
  • Use a gentle cycle.
  • Avoid fabric softener.
  • Lay flat to dry.
  • Do not tumble dry.

Washing less often helps merino last longer.

Socks

  • Wash inside out at 30°C.
  • Avoid tumble drying.
  • Do not iron or dry clean.
  • Air dry for best shape retention.

Bags & hardgoods

Bags and packs don’t usually need machine washing.

  • Spot clean with a damp cloth.
  • Use mild soap if needed.
  • Do not machine wash unless the label says you can.
  • Air dry fully before storing.
  • Empty pockets and shake out dirt regularly.

Storage

  • Make sure everything is completely dry.
  • Store in a cool, dry place.
  • Avoid long-term compression, especially for down.
  • Hang waterproofs if possible.

When in doubt

If you are unsure, wash cold, be gentle, and air dry.

If something does not feel right, stop and check the care label.

Good care keeps your kit working season after season.
